After our fun climb at Mount Manalmon in San Miguel Bulacan, a very exciting spelunking awaits us at the Bayukbok Cave, just a few meters away from the Madlum river.
I don't know much about the cave. At first, I thought that we were about to go to a historical cave in Biak na Bato where wide holes and large hideouts can be seen. Well, I was wrong. Bayukbok cave is a popular attraction in San Miguel so I expected an easy "walk in the park" caving adventure like what we did in Calinawan Cave in Tanay. But then again, I was wrong! I never thought that an extreme spelunking experience that will pump up our adrenalin awaits us.

Bayukbok Cave |
Bayukbok Cave is part of the Biak na Bato National Park of San Miguel Bulacan. One can also include this to an outdoor adventure along with a climb at Mount Manalmon or Mount Gola.
Please check out my post about Mount Manalmon for directions from Manila to Bayukbok Cave.
From the registration site of Mount Manalmon where we had our lunch, we have to cross the Madlum river. This time, we crossed the river using the monkey bridge.

Crossing the Monkey Bridge |
Our local guide Mang Onat introduced us to Kuya Lian, our spelunking guide. For a group of ten, it is safer to have two guides in exploring the cave. We started a short trek up to the opening of the cave then before entering, Kuya Lian taught us some safety reminders and facts about the cave. Then after a short prayer, we started entering the cave.
Bayukbok cave is said to have eight rooms. The first six were connected to each other while rooms 7 and 8 are separated from the six. We are going to explore the first six rooms.
Rappelling down the cave. |
Entering the cave is pretty exciting. One must crawl down the 15 feet high rock formation then rappel down using the rope attached on the rocks. Then from there, we continued going inside the cave. Headlamps and flashlights are necessary in this activity because it is getting darker and darker as we move further down the cave.
Inside the cave. |
We were amazed by the formations of stalactites and stalagmites around the cave. All of us enjoyed searching for a nice spot to pose for the camera. Then as we move further inside the cave, the walls were getting tighter and tighter. There was this part where stalactites create sounds when you hit it like a drum. This is what they called the "music room".
Then we climb up to another room. This part is much smaller. In this room, we saw funny-shaped stalagmites around. You can see a lot of rocks here shaped like a male organ! No wonder why they called this part the "penis line".

As we move along, we had to crawl and go inside the small holes.
A claustrophobic would definitely freak out in this part of the cave. The
rocks are now more difficult to climb. Its now getting harder and harder
to get through each passage ways.
There was a part where we had to climb up a rope ladder. Then after that is what they called the "body language" where we really have to bend our bodies just to pass through tunnels. We also have to stretch our arms and legs to climb the rocks up to the exit.

Sunlight at last! |
The difficulty of spelunking in Bayukbok cave according to Kuya Lian
is graded 7-8 out of 10. It really is one of the extreme activities that
I've ever experience. Some of us were first time spelunkers and they
really enjoyed the experience. Good thing no one got hurt on our group
in this whole adventure.
It really was an extreme and exciting spelunking adventure. From then on, every time "spelunking" comes to a conversation, Bayukbok cave surely comes first into my mind.
